The anger of not feeling like another person, a human being that means something to us, understands something that’s important to us. I think we’ve all been there.
That anger is vicious, it’s quick and it’s just as poisonous to creative, understanding conversations as all pain is. It’s even more counterproductive in trying to win someone over.
We’ve all got those questions. For some it’s racist or sexist language. For some it’s the employment tax. And for some it’s education.
Regardless, the anger needs to be put somewhere where it isn’t as poisonous. It needs to be put on hold.
That’s the mastery of leadership and of persuasion. People in power, CEOs, politicians or diplomats aren’t all less emotional. They just know where to put the emotion at what time. Just like marathon runners know where to put their tired.
