Prosumer.
The fault we make is to consume. Over and over again. We consume products, tv-series, movies, books, TED-talks, social media feeds and so on. It’s not that we’re consuming, it’s that we only consume. We need to become prosumers.
It’s a bright, quite warm day in the middle of June. It’s what people would call ‘a really nice day’. Loads of people are going to the city library to enjoy a full day of inspiration. They’ve set aside a full work day to be there, invested money and gone through a selection process to even get to buy a ticket. We’ve all come to learn. And most of us make the same mistake.
When you sit on your but for 8 hours listening to people talk about things that seem important to them, you might learn stuff. If you take things down in a notepad, the chances are higher that you do. If you create something from the experience, say write a text about what you’ve learned, telling your friends what you’ve learned, chances are even higher still. Then you’ve produced and consumed, prosumed.
I want to encourage you, for the next time you consume something, try to match it by producing something. Not for the sake of producing, but to create value for someone. It might be for yourself. But do produce as well as consume.
