Priorities.
The binary forms of discussions we have are never going to serve us. And they’ve never been as inaccurate as they are right now. The word priority is important in this discourse, as its usually used wrongly yet more fitting.
Priority means prior in hierarchy, somethings prior to something else. With that logic, there can’t be any more than one top priority, one thing higher in ranks than all other things. That kind of structure is very useful in some situations, where the military is a prominent example. The societal discussions about perceived problems however, is not one of those situations.
Never have we been more capable of dealing with many different things at the same time. We can battle poverty and climate change at the same time. We can take care of immigrants and our elderly at the same time. There doesn’t need to be a priority in the same sense anymore.
The notion of priorities become more important when resources are low. That’s not the case for mankind in west right now, as a matter of fact, we’ve never been better off.
Before thinking in binary, prioritising terms the next time, I’d like to encourage you to think in broader terms. Your question or area might need some more attention right now, at least out of your perception.
