I rarely miss an appointment. It’s something I’ve been brought up with: I don’t cancel things. Sometimes we all have things happening to us, happening around us, or simply life happens. And sometimes that leads to us having to cancel.
When a teacher canceled a class, or even was a bit late, I used to get very frustrated. As did all of the other students. In my early teens, the rule was that if the teacher is more than 15 minutes late, the class would be canceled. Needless to say, when a teacher was about 10 minutes late, there was a mix of anger and disappointment from the class, as one of the best things we knew was having class canceled.
Now, I’ve realised that there are a million different reasons to have to cancel something. All of them might not be visible to me at the time it happens. Some of them might not even make sense.
I’ve gotten in to the habit of responding to apologies for being late, having to cancel or simply not showing up with the simple: No worries, I know life can happen to us. And then I let it go.
Because I don’t gain anything from dwelling on it. Nothing. At. All.
