You learn to juggle not by throwing balls up in to the air. That’s not the essence of juggling, because if it was, you’d be able to juggle. Every child can throw a ball. The important thing to learn when juggling is to catch the balls. But in order to learn juggling, you shouldn’t learn catching either. Catching the ball wherever it lands will get you only as far as looking like a crazy person, going all over the place to reach the balls, getting more and more stressed as you try keeping all of the balls in the air.

The essence of juggling is being able to throw each and every ball so that it lands right in the other palm. Juggling is throwing the ball accurately in to the other palm.

Realising this, you might realise that you learned a bunch of things the wrong way around. What do you need to relearn today, and what’s the essence in learning it?

Inspired by Seth Godins’ Akimbo ep. “Juggling and Bicycles”.
