I’m really impressed by the things people are accomplishing in culture right now. By how the Smiths have hacked it, reaching virtually all demographics. How Jay and Beyonce are building something incredibly big for their family. How Russ hacked Soundcloud, finding a way to break there. How Garyvee day by day is showing us how social media could be used to generate value. How we can have conversations like the ones Krista Tippett is having on On Being. And so on.
I’m impressed by how these people are building something from virtually nothing. By how they’ve built something bigger than themselves, for something bigger than themselves, and continue to do so. Tippett has built an entire studio, being able to scale the important conversations to more people than herself. And that’s just one example.
I’m also impressed by how on time some cultural icons seem to be. Jaden Smith is right now in the midsts of our generations culture, hitting all of the notes that my generation seem to want to hit. He’s a rapper, very much appreciated, he’s straight on in fashion and have been for quite some time now, and he’s somewhat politically engaged, at least on the environmental area.
And of course it’s not just these people. They each have tens and hundreds of people helping them in their pursuits. I just wanted to voice this admiration for people building cool things.
