I’ve become interested in design the past couple of months. Design in all forms, from websites to architecture to processes and railways. I’ll share some thoughts I have on designs I see, both poor and really good continuously as I want to get your thoughts on them and learn more about different aspects of design.
#Cdesign no1: A system to report problems in a building.
This picture is taken at Malmö University’s building “Orkanen”, in one of the toilets. In all rooms I’ve seen in the building, you can find these QR-codes. If you scan them, you can report an error, and I assume it’s sent to some sort of maintenance staff member.
I think this is brilliant. It’s a really efficient way to crowdsource maintenance in a large building, and it gives the user of the room a possibility to see flaws or problems and do something about it. It’s lowering the threshold as well, as an opposite to putting up a phone number to the maintenance staff.
The flaw here is that not everyone knows how to access QR-codes. Maybe putting up a link or a phone number as well would be optimal.
How would you design a crowdsourced maintenance system like this for a large building?
